A very hospitable town with lots more to offer than you realise. Waitara has some beautiful sea views and river. It has a community feel to it. There are some sit down cafe places to eat and some take away food outlets a sushi shop and a New World supermarket. A great walkway along the river and a couple of canoeing clubs.
An RSA there who cater for sitdown meals and a library with internet access available. There are recreational park and a couple of second hand clothing stores ie.. It's super easy getting around too. If you go out further you can be in the main city of New Plymouth about 16 minute drive. Hotel is a gem amongst rocks. Pity surrounding businesses are a bit of a down grade. But we weren't in waitara long enough to give a more informed opinion. Will definitely be visiting again though.
This was my first time to waitara and I was blown away how friendly the locals were and the beautiful scenery that surrounds the town,easy to find your way around too. The lookout over the town has a great view of the mountain, river and town.
