The other thing is there seems to be no dedicated seafood restaurant although the fresh seafood available in Gisborne is the best I've ever tasted. The seafood dishes that we did get were quite similar to what you could buy at the fish and chip shops, although the fish and chips are beautiful.

We loved the technology museum on the main road. The woman who showed us around was very knowledgable,helpful and went the extra mile to make us feel welcome. We also visited the Eastwoodhill Arboretum and thought it was beautifully cared for and a pleasure to walk around. We really enjoyed the food we had at Burger Wisconsin and Lone Star. We found our way around easily even though it had been years since our last trip to Gisborne. We were happy to see that the town seemed busier-lots of other people visiting on holiday.

We will come back again-the roads have been improved since our last trip.

Great restaurant Three Rivers. Were very late and we ordered over the phone and meal was ready when we arrived. Really lovely modern unit. Adequate for us. Fab beaches. Lovely coastal drive north and thereon. Good for fishing.

Pleasant walks around town and environs. On my next visit I would avoid a restaurant that used to be called Wild Foods. Mess visible, pot out the toilet window full of mucky, greasy water, food took long time coming.

Quality of food could be much improved. Not much food choices. Presentation of cakes etc no eye appeal and food in hot box quite dry and dark coloured. We loved the beaches, friendly local retail shops, Kaiti bakery supplied us with beautiful Maori bread. We ate all sauces from London St fish n chip shop, the kids loved the big park beside the Olympic pools.

Rere rock slide is also fun. There is such a strong vibrant Maori culture alive in Gisborne, heaps of cafes, eateries and bars around the central township. Lovely place to visit. Very friendly locals. Day trip up to Tokomaru Bay and Tolaga Bay was interesting.

Dinner at The Wharf restaurant and bar was some of the best food ever. Staff need some training a a bit slow but it's well worth the wait. The Scallops and Prawns are amazing and the chicken is delicious.

Cheap Flights to New Zealand

Avoid the Turkish by the town clock. Very poor. My 3rd trip to Gisborne, and each time I enjoy it more. The beaches are spectacular. Arboretum is a must do, along with feeding the wild stingray! Gisborne has a lovely feel to it, the well maintained gardens, the rivers and the palm trees give that real holiday destination vibe Great find in gisborne and the price was very reasonable compared to others. Everything was clearly labeled so everything was easy to find. There were so many homely touches. My son loved the basket of toys and books and enjoyed his time.

Thanks for letting us stay! This place was a dream, beautiful house, pool, really helpful owner, our room was large and even had air con which was a life saver in the heat wave.

It was all very new and certainly a luxury b n b, the nicest by far we have stayed at in NZ. Thank you for a wonderful relaxing break. The staff were amazing the cleaning ladies did an excellent job. The unit was excellent. The view was breath taking. Totally loved every day. So peaceful picture perfect was the best holiday ever. Thank you to all the staff at whispering sands. Will definitely stay at whispering sands when ever I go to gisborne. Have recommended this hotel to friends and family. Property was close to both beaches and a very short drive to town.

Grounds were lovely and a pool was at your disposal. Guest laundry was a huge benefit to us. Owner even moved my load to the hotel machine when the guest machine gad issues. She is an absolute treasure. Thank you! You made our stay memorable!!

Loved our weekend stay, we used the lodge as our base as we were in town for a family function. Great location easy to get from one place to the other, beautifully clean and well appointed room. Will be the only place we stay in Gisborne in the future. It was quiet even closed to town. Everything was there I could imagine,all clean and decorated like a hotel.

The host was very friendly and explained everything. I would like to come back. So clean and comfortable. By far the best motel we've stayed in Gisborne. Would recommend it to anyone.

Great location for the surf carnival I was in Gisborne for. Friendly staff and very clean. Location, size of rooms, swimming pool with spa bath. The local pub was just across the motel which was amazing. The rooms were super clean and we were provided amazing services from the staff. Would recommend this motel to others, it was worth what we paid for. Definitely book again. Was great location and great to be able to walk everywhere. These guys have the most functional bathrooms ever!

Super-helpful hosts, nothing too much. Just outstanding. On arrival after travelling all day and coming home from another country was a warm as welcome was awesome as The hostess was lovely. So was able to set up office and work frim. What was initially a few days stay turned into approx 4 weeks.

I extended my stay about 3 or 4 times.

Whilst the man initially had asked me to pack up to move to another room for my first extension, Carmen kindly arranged for me to stay in the same room for the entire stay. I appreciated her kind, caring, very friendly and professional service while I was there. The cleaners were respectful and accommodating. The port area is relatively shallow, and tenders serve larger ships at a roadstead in Poverty Bay.
